On this measure, smaller numbers are better than large ones; there are more devices available to students when the number of students per digital learning device is low.

District administrators are a good source of information if you have questions about the number of Internet-connected digital learning devices in your district or about the use of the Internet in educating students. Other questions to ask:

• What is the speed of the Internet connections in schools in this district? Slower or unstable connections are more difficult to use for some types of research and activities.
  
• Where are the Internet-connected digital learning devices located in schools? Are these areas to which students have regular access?
  
• How often is the Internet used to support or deliver instruction in schools?
